Iannis Xenakis
Greece (Amorgos Island)
1966
Iannis Xenakis built this Villa for his daughter and her husband, the French composer François-Bernard Mache. The building is located on the Greek Island of Amorgos, on a slope, facing the north side.
The Villa Mache is a perfect example of the adaptation of the modern movement to the culture and the Mediterranean weather. The different rooms of the house are clearly defined and it is the main concept of the project. However, the house is adapted to the human scale with curve geometry of the rooms and the windows that control the internal temperature and light. The result is a house between modernism and traditionalism.
